The SST-390A Salt Spray Test Chamber (390 Liter) is a premium
salt spray test chamber / salt fog chamber / corrosion test chamber
designed and manufactured by UMA Industries and Machine Control Systems (MCS),
Faridabad (India), and supplied through phmeters.in.

This advanced salt spray chamber is ideal for laboratories and industries that need reliable,
repeatable corrosion resistance testing as per ASTM B117 and ISO 9227.
It is widely used for neutral salt spray (NSS) testing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals,
coatings, paints, platings and surface treatments in automotive, fastener, hardware, plating,
powder-coating and metal finishing units.

Working Principle – Salt Spray / Corrosion Test (ASTM B117 / ISO 9227)

1) Scope

Salt spray testing is used for corrosion resistance evaluation of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
and for testing organic and inorganic coatings such as paint, powder coating, electroplating,
anodizing and conversion coatings.

2) Apparatus

• Closed fog chamber
• Salt solution reservoir and circulation system
• Oil-free, dust-free air supply with filter/regulator
• Atomizing nozzle(s) for salt fog generation
• Specimen supports / hangers
• Heaters and control system
• Monitoring for temperature, humidity, time, pH and fog rate

3) Temperature Control

For NSS testing, the exposure zone is maintained around 35 ± 2 °C.
The controller keeps operating conditions stable for repeatable results.

4) pH Control of Salt Solution

ASTM B117 requires collected solution pH between 6.5 to 7.2 when atomized around 35 °C.
The SST-390A includes pH monitoring to help maintain this neutral range.

5) Atomization and Fog Quantity

For every 80 cm² (4-inch funnel) horizontal collecting area, collected solution should be
1.0 to 2.0 mL per hour averaged over at least 16 hours (ASTM B117).
