How a Digital Online pH Meter Works ; why use pH Meter Uma Industries

The pH value indicates the concentration of hydrogen ions (H⁺) in a solution:

  • pH < 7.0 – solution is acidic (high H⁺ ion concentration)

  • pH = 7.0 – solution is neutral

  • pH > 7.0 – solution is alkaline (low H⁺ ion concentration, higher OH⁻)

When the pH probe is dipped into a solution:

  1. Hydrogen ions from the solution interact with the glass membrane of the electrode (outer side of the bulb).

  2. Inside the bulb, there is a buffer solution of known pH (typically pH 7.0).

  3. The difference in hydrogen ion concentration inside and outside the bulb creates a potential (voltage) difference across the membrane.

  4. The Digital pH Meter measures this potential difference between the measuring and reference electrode and calculates pH according to the Nernst equation.

In simple words, the Online pH Meter converts the electrical signal from the pH electrode into a digital pH reading on the display.


Calibration Process – Digital pH Meter Online

Follow this step-by-step procedure to calibrate your Digital pH Meter Online:

  1. Prepare the pH Probe

    • Gently clean the pH sensor / pH probe using distilled (DM) water.

    • Do not wipe the glass bulb roughly – just rinse and gently shake off excess water.

    • Rinse gently with DM water and shake off excess drops.

  4. Calibrate at 4.00 pH

    • Dip the pH probe in a standard buffer solution of 4.00 pH.

    • Wait again for about 2 minutes till the reading is stable.

    • Adjust the “4 pH” calibration screw on the front panel.

    • Match the display to 4.00 ± 0.05 pH.

  5. Repeat to Confirm

    • For best accuracy, repeat the above steps once more (7.00 pH and then 4.00 pH).

    • This ensures the calibration of the online pH meter is perfect.
